LONG WAITING TIMES &  WHY IT’S BETTER TO BE THE ADULT SON/DAUGHTER OF A GREEN CARD HOLDER THAN A U.S. CITIZEN!

U.S. Citizens may sponsor their immediate relatives (spouses, parents and minor children) for a green card but for Green Card Holders and their relatives, the waiting times can be very long. The May 2024 Visa Bulletin shows waiting times of anywhere from about 3 years (for a spouse or child of a Green Card Holder) to about 23 years for the Mexican National brother/sister of a U.S. Citizen. Right now, it is better to be the adult child of a Green Card Holder (3 year waiting period) than the adult child of a U.S. Citizen (9 year waiting period)!
