How Do I Obtain a Social Security Card?

How to obtain a Social Security Number for Noncitizens:
http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10096.html

Follow the directions from the Social Security Administration’s website  http://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/.

You will need to do the following:

  1. Fill out an Application form at  http://www.ssa.gov/online/ss-5.html.
  2. Go to the nearest Social Security Office and apply for a Social Security number.  You can locate the nearest Social Security office by going to the Social Security website https://secure.ssa.gov/apps6z/FOLO/fo001.jsp and entering in your zip code.
  3. Bring the completed Application as well as identification and proof of eligibility such as your unexpired Passport, EAD card and any documents that you received from USCIS.  http://www.ssa.gov/ss5doc
